Dewar’s Vessel Still Life
by Evgeny Lushpin, 2007
ABOUT
This still life painting utilizes the Dewar's Vessel, more fondly called thermos, as its theme. Next to it, however, is a big seashell, which has the tendency to capture the attention as it is seated right in the middle. It kind of seems like the focal point of this art. Other details such as a white ball and some flasks help make the painting appear more interesting. What is a Dewar's Vessel anyway? What makes it an interesting piece? Well, aside from its beautiful reflective appearance, a thermos can retain the temperature of the liquid inside, despite any changes in the surroundings. Would not that be a lovely trait to have as a real person, to not be swayed by any outside factors?
